That's perfect ! Classes are supposed to start by the end of september, but I think, my parents want me to leave my parisian flat by june...I don't want to...but it's expensive (and above all, pointless) keeping it during summer (omg, this sentence can't be correct...it sounds weird)
Then, I have to enjoy it until the very end

Did you pick Newcastle among other cities or was it a random decision? I've been there, on a rainy-foggy-shitty December day and I did not enjoy it... The view of the bridges is awesome, the old castle was great to visit, and I remember spending the day climbing streets. And there is a Primark so it's worth it.
But the accent is just awful, and I lived in Yorkshire this guy stopped us to ask us something, I just understood the "please"...

| Hinhin~ it's expensive TO keep it during summer (thanks :B)
Well...err~ indeed yeah, I chose it knowing it was rainy, knowing about the awful accent, and other stuffs like that. But I really want to study at Newcastle, their university rocks (?),and...honestly, I want to live on a campus, just to try
It's boring, my english is really poor I'm not able to explain how much I want to get there...and I overuse "want to" that's unbearable , I'm so pissed ><

Ok, so hopefully we'll be able to meet up any time in June. Will tell you when is my meeting/reception/whatever as soon as I know!
Have to go back to my fantastic lesson on Emily Dickinson's poetry... I swear if she wasn't already dead, I would have killed her myself!

Posté par Alinoë Tangerine and Alecto, do you consider you're bilingual ? (Alecto, I'm not sure, but you spent a year in England, didn't you ?) | Haha, tricky question!
I've always been told that you can't be "officially" considered "bilingual" when you're French, that is at least one of your parents must be English/Spanish/whatever. At best, you can be fluent. So I am fluent (I guess... ) but at times I have some problems to find the perfect word I want to use.

Posté par Alinoë Tangerine and Alecto, do you consider you're bilingual ? (Alecto, I'm not sure, but you spent a year in England, didn't you ?) | Not yet. I need to be immersed into the other language. I did spend eight months in the UK where I faced the worst audience ever: four-year-old and Indians (on the phone or at the Post Office). Once you understand them and make them understand you, you've reached a step! But I had French-speaking house-mates so I was not speaking English all the time. And besides of school, I was speaking English with foreigners, so no perfection of accent or of words.
Now, back in Paris, I barely speak English. Though I guess I am between the C1 (oral) and the B2 (writing) I need more time and more practice. My vocabulary is not that broad
It's a tricky question. But if I compare my English with the other students of my year (third year at the Sorbonne, it should mean somehting) of course I am better (it's not hard to be better when your classmates say stud/ai/ or e/vent!) and if I compare with the level of French of the few English girls that I know (same year + year abroad) my English is better too. So bilinguism, no, but after a year or two, yes.

Posté par Mayfair Living on an english campus is amazing the first days you just feel like you're in an american movie
I really enjoy living there even if I miss my quiet flat in France I hope you don't mind being bothered by the noise ^^
But you'll see it's a very good experience and you'll improve your english quickly if you don't only stay with French people (what I'm unfortunately quite doing...) | There is no way that could happen...eer, I want to say "aucun risque que ça arrive" I will be alone...under my umbrella, just with my plastic boots to comfort me.
AHAH~ I hate being disturbed by the noise...what a luck ! Citation:

Posté par MelleJune One month ago, after talking 10 min with a Ducth granny ( she was 86) in English she said to me :
"So you are French rightl?"
"Yes, I am"
"And you can speak French too?"
"Of course I am French!!!!!!!"
" Oh i mean, French don't speak English usually! So one of your parent is French?"
"My parents are both French "
"And you live in France?"
"Yeeeeeeeeeees "
She's not prejudiced against French people! Not at all :raie: | Ha I can totally relate to this ! I've heard this so many times from Dutch people...Because they're taught to be bilingual and even have degrees in English at university (I hope this never happens here..) a lot seem to think it's abnormal not to be fluent in English..
First of all this is such a cliché, a lot of French people (particularly the young generation) speak a decent English. Secondly, I don't see what's the big deal, I don't think we should have to be bilingual, we're in France after all so the most important is to speak French, right ?
Provided you don't act like a bastard and try to impose your language when you go abroad that's fine (sadly that's what a lot of people do, I hate when tourists come to me in Paris to ask an information and they don't even make an effort to utter a single french word like "Bonjour..s'il vous plaît" -like that's such a hard thing to learn - and automatically start speaking English..of course I always answer politely but it still annoys me). |

And for the part of your quote that I highlighted, well French people do EXACTLY the same abroad. Trust me, I've met so many rude French people abroad that sometimes I am ashamed of being French.
And honestly, I think that the level of English that most French people have is poor. The French education system is extremely bad concerning foreign languages.

| I definitely think foreign languages should be better taught in France, by that I mean all languages. What annoys me is the constant emphasis on English, like it's the only language in the world worthy of interest. I'm just sick and tired of this anglo-saxon imperialism.
I don't see where I denied that French people can be rude too albeit in a different way. I was pointing out how tourists behave abroad in general, that whoever acts like that is annoying, I just spoke about my personal experience here because that's what I know best. I know it happens elsewhere too.
